Instructions |
Start with creating a small
accordion book. You will later slip this book inside the brass frame by
opening the lid on the top of the frame. Cut a piece of white cover
stock or thick paper approximately 6 ˝” long by 1 ˝” wide. Fold this
piece of paper up about every inch or so - my book has 5 folds and 6
sections. I made my folds like this: valley, mountain, valley, mountain,
and lastly valley, so that I ended up with a front and back cover on one
side of the paper and six small inside sections on the other side. Check
the fit of your accordion book to the necklace frame. It should be snug,
but you should also be able to close the lid and remove or replace the
accordion book easily. Trim if necessary.
Next, glue an image from the
All My Love Collage Sheet on the front cover of your accordion book. To
do this, take your folded up book and use it as a template to pencil
around the lover’s faces on the sheet. Cut it out to the proper size.
Using your favorite glue attach the front and back cover images as well
as all the inside pages. I chose an image from the Hold Me transparency
sheet for the back cover. I like to do this in case the necklace flips
over while being worn; there is still a beautiful image to look at. The
inside pages were done with ARTchix Studio’s Victorian Angels, Gold
Angels, Gold Bows & Arrows, and images from the collage sheets It’s
Raining Men, Marry Me and Mini Mix.
To attach the Envelope Charm to
the front of the brass frame use 26 gauge Artistic Wire. Cut 2 small
pieces of wire, 6”- 8” long with your wire cutting tool. With the
accordion book OUT of the brass frame, slightly bend the sides out just
far enough so you can slip the middle of your length of wire into the
corners of the frame where it separates. Use a pair of needle nose
pliers to gently press the wire down into the inside corners of the
frame so the wire will be out of the way of the accordion book. Very
gently bend the sides of the frame back so you can close the lid of the
frame on top again. You should have small amounts of wire coming out of
the front and back of each corner.
Use this wire (on both sides)
to thread through the two holes of the Envelope Charm and twist once or
twice to hold it in place. Then add a Brass Heart Charm on one side of
the envelope charm and a Made with Love Tag on the other side,
using the same wire. Twist and flatten with the needle nose pliers &
lastly trim the ends with the wire cutters. The Envelope Charm can
actually be opened, and a teeny tiny note placed inside.
Hand Dyed Ribbon
makes a lovely way to show off your Valentine necklace. Attach a jump
ring by using the needle nose pliers to open it
slightly on one side. Slip the jump ring through the loop at the top of
the brass frame and then use the pliers to close it up again. Cut a
length of the ribbon, thread it through the jump ring and tie an
overhand knot on top of the jump ring to keep it from sliding. Then tie
a knot at the end of the ribbon.
To embellish it further I
threaded a needle with metallic gold thread and sewed on Brass Key
Charms, Brass Heart Lockets, and Glass Chili Pepper Pendants directly
onto the ribbon. I did not trim the ends close, but rather left the ends
of the metallic threads long after I tied a knot. Enjoy!
