Introduction
My name
is Christine Hendry and I live in Eugene, Oregon with my husband Mark
and our five wonderful fur children (two dogs and three cats). I’ve
worked for a local bath & body care company for over 15 years, in a job
that keeps me interested by constantly evolving.
As long as I can remember, I’ve been creative. In my teenage years it
took the form of working in three-dimensional mediums, such as beadwork
and stained glass. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I became
interested in the paper arts. This began when I was introduced to rubber
stamping and then to collage, assemblage, and art dolls through various
art retreats I attended. For the last several years I have been a
teaching assistant for my mom, Albie at Artfest and Art & Soul, where I
have gained an amazing amount of inspiration and camaraderie from other
students and teachers.
To be honest, while I have a constant desire to create, “art” does not
usually come easy for me. I struggle to get myself started, over
thinking everything. A single ATC can take me days to create, and I
usually work on several pieces simultaneously over the course of months.
Once things start to flow, I revel in the feeling of being consumed by
the creative process, and lose all sense of time. This feeling of being
outside myself, immersed in the work, is a great joy.
A few years ago I took a trip around the world, and I realize now how
much my travels have influenced my art, particularly in the colors that
I use and put together. I adore vibrant jewel tones, and using unlikely
color combinations, and have developed a passion for the color red. For
me, color is the catalyst – it’s what gets me going and inspires me to
create. I am also very fond of anything glittery or metallic – tiny
jeweled embellishments find their way into much of my work – I just
can’t help myself. I also enjoy using my own paste papers in my art; I
become inspired by the rich colors and patterns created when I let loose
in this medium. The majority of my art is on a small scale, usually no
larger than 4x5 inches.
Along with color and travel, I am also inspired by playing with my mom
in her art studio, by being challenged to try new themes through swaps,
and by viewing the work of other artists in the ARTchix Yahoo Group. |

Instructions
First I cut out a house-shaped piece of
cardstock and covered it with black paper decorated with Asian
characters. A piece of paste paper that I had made by brushing on red
paste paint, then sponging purple paste paint, then gold paint through
stencils, was cut into a square and mounted to cardstock, which was
placed into the upper part of the house. Red Small Renaissance Borders
were glued on the right and left edges of the piece, Gold Baroque
Borders were placed along the bottom, and Red Baroque Borders were glued
horizontally across the top. A Gold Decorative Corner was added to the
peak of the house, Red Small Renaissance Borders were placed over the
lower edge of the Gold Baroque Border, and the Gold Large Renaissance
Borders were glued along the top of the paste paper, over the Red
Baroque Border. A clock image from the DreamBox House Kit was glued
behind an image from the Gentle Geishas Collage Sheet, then the two were
attached with pop dots to the red and gold paste paper. Gold Mini Wings
were also attached with pop dots behind the Geisha, and a cigar label
was adhered to the front of the Geisha. “Creative Power”, from the Tell
Me A Story Collage Sheet, was placed above the Geisha, and stars from
the Gold Star Borders were glued to either side. Tiny red jewels were
adhered to the stars, and Red Metal Roses were glued to the peak of the
house, and on top of the cigar label.

Instructions
I diluted Lumiere paints with water to make pink and blue color washes,
which I brushed over a Watercolor Artist Trading Card. Once dry, I added
the house image from the La Belle Femme ATC Creativity Kit, over which I
glued a woman from the Exotic Jewels Collage Sheet. I then added one of
the Gold Swan Wings to the woman, a Gold Medieval Border (cut in half
lengthwise) along the bottom, and a gold scrap moon and star at the peak
of the house. Little gold confetti stars were added to the sky, heart
sequins were glued inside the house, and a purple jewel was added to the
center. Finally, pink glitter glue was placed atop the hearts, and
turquoise glitter glue was added to the center of the house image.

Instructions
I adhered a color copy of a page from an old botanical book to 3x3
inch cardstock, then added the images of the nymph/fairy and the
butterfly from the Nature’s Beauty Creativity Kit, as well as an image
from the Peace, Tranquility, and Harmony Faux Postage Sheet in the upper
left corner. A maple leaf embellishment and three copper flower sequins
were added, along with the Copper Small Renaissance Border along the
bottom. Finally, I cut up some glittery mesh ribbon, which I glued along
the left side, and in the lower right corner, to add a little shine.
