About Us: Helga's Studio

***Due to a recent fire, my art studio is out of commission. I hope to have it back up and running in March 2008. I will be sure to share photos when it's complete.

Note: Please keep all of your art tools unplugged. The fire started because the switch failed on my heat tool and went on in the middle of the night. So scary!***

This is my sanctuary, my haven, my art studio. I'm always curious to see how other artists store their art supplies and organize their creative space. So I thought it would be cool if I shared some photos of my art room with you.

My two cents on studio organization:
Label your containers and drawers as much as possible (and don't wait for pretty, typed labels...it's okay if they're boring and handwritten).

Keep a couple of bins on your art table that include your most used supplies like your favorite scissors, glue stick, pens, etc. so that they're always in easy reach.

If possible, set aside space for ongoing projects. I like to keep mine in stacks on my desk. For example, my art journal is an ongoing project that I keep on my desk so if I find something in a magazine that I want to try in it, I rip the idea or image out of the magazine and put it in my art journal pile. This helps give me direction and focus when it's playtime in my studio.

Here I am in my studio with my precious kitties. They meow like crazy if I don't let them in. So, if I'm not flinging paint around, I'll usually let them wander about. That is until they start chewing on my vintage papers and tinsel. LOL.   This is my art desk. I love having it as a U shape so that I have work surfaces on 3 sides.   This cabinet is filled with all kinds of embellishments and goodies. On top of it is a little chest that I bought from a hardware store. It holds all of my charms and misc. super tiny stuff.

This is a cool metal wall hanging that usually holds greeting cards. Instead, I've tucked in inspiring ATCs, collages and gifts from friends.   Just a peak into my closet...you'll see that I've organized my fabrics by color in bins. And on the bottom, I keep all of my paints, pens and glitters in labeled plastic drawers. These have wheels on them so that I can slide them over to my desk if need be.   This is my bookshelf that's dedicated to all things paper. I know it looks really messy but it's labeled pretty well so I'm usually able to find what I need.
