Inchie Jewelry

by Helga Strauss

Want to make some quick, easy and lovely inchie necklaces, rings and charms?

The first thing to do is pull out our Lovely Inchie Jewelry Kit. It has just about everything you need except for glue and scissors, of course.

Wipe down the Wood Inchie Tag with a damp paper towel to remove any residue.

Cut out your desired inchie image. Then paint on a coat of your favorite white glue. Golden's Matte Medium, Modge Podge, Crafter's Pick Ultimate Glue, Diamond Glaze...whatever you have on hand will do. My current fave is Inkssentials Glue N' Seal.

Press paper image onto Wood Tag and burnish well with your hands or even a brayer if you have one handy. Let dry. Then paint a coat of varnish over your image. Just about any varnish that you have on hand should work...a spray varnish, Golden's Matte Medium, Modge Podge, Diamond Glaze or Inkssentials Glue N' Seal.

When dry, use an awl to poke a small hole from the back side to the front.

Then go back with your awl from the front side and push down through the hole. This gives you a clear, nice, neat hole.

Now you're ready to add a Pendant Bail. Simply open the jaws, slide on the wood tag and pinch it closed. Easy peasy!

I added a touch of Gilder's Paste around the edges of my image just to blend the paper into the wood. It's a nice touch, totally optional.

Add Ball Chain and your inchie necklace is ready to wear.

Another option is to add a bit of white gesso around the edges of your paper image to blend the paper edges into the wood.

On the back, I painted a coat of white gesso and then wrote my name with a Sharpie marker. If this was a gift, it would be nice to personalize it in a special way.

I slid the inchie onto Black Leather Cord and wouldn't you know it...Inca loved it so much that she wanted to model it for you.

Our new Inchie Wood Tags are also available without holes and with 2 holes.

I made this cute inchie ring using an Inchie Wood Tag - No Holes and an Adjustable Ring.

The Inchie Wood Tags with 2 Holes are great if you want to add a cute dangle. I pulled together a headpin, Blue Enamel Bird Bead, crystal bead along with a rose from our Lovely Inchie Jewelry Kit.

Here it is all together...can't you see this as a cute earring? Or necklace pendant? Must make more! : )
