Monogram Jewelry

by Helga Strauss

Want to make some quick, easy and elegant monogram necklaces?

The first thing to do is pull out our Monogram Jewelry Kit. It has just about everything you need except for glue and scissors. If you have a 1" round punch, you'll want to grab that for this project for sure.

The monograms found in our Monogram Jewelry Kit and on our Round Monograms collage sheet are from this old German Monogram catalog from the 1800s. Here's the cover.

And here's a peek inside. Isn't it cool?!

Okay, back to our creative playtime. Wipe down the Wood Round Tag with a damp paper towel to remove any residue.

Cut out your desired monograms. Then paint on a coat of your favorite white glue. Golden's Matte Medium, Modge Podge, Crafter's Pick Ultimate Glue, Diamond Glaze...whatever you have on hand will do. My current fave is Inkssentials Glue N' Seal. Let dry and add another coat on top to seal it.

Or feel free to color your monograms first. Dig out your felt tip pens, gel pens, markers, colored pencils...whatever you have on hand. Color away and have fun.

Here's one that I colored with a Sharpie, gel pen and watercolor crayons. Fun!

When your monogram is ready, glue it to the Wood Tag and then cover it with a varnish. As I mentioned before, my current fave for both tasks is Inkssentials Glue N' Seal (available at Michaels).

When dry, use an awl to poke a small hole from the back side to the front. Then go back with your awl from the front side and push down through the hole. This gives you a clear, nice, neat hole. Add a Pendant Bail: open the jaws, slide on the wood tag and pinch it closed. Easy peasy!

Add Ball Chain and your monogram necklace is ready to wear.
