Letter from Helga |

Me and dear, sweet Stella |
|
Dear Art Friend,
Hope all is well and happy in your world. Here in ARTchix-land, life is
filled with a new fluffy addition!
I’m so excited to introduce you to our new puppy, Stella. She’s such a
happy, smiley, adorable puppy. She has been keeping me pretty busy so I
haven’t had very much extra time for creative play this month. But I
plan to dive back into my art playtime soon. Just to help get me
motivated, I came up with some fun exercises for me to do. Join me on
below.
Halloween is just around the corner. So, I’ve included some awesome
Halloween themed gallery artwork.. And you’ll find a great selection of
Halloween ARTchix goodies too.
Check out some of the fun stuff in my art studio...including my new
favorite glue!
Hope you’re enjoying long walks and beautiful Fall colors!
Wishing you a wonderful, art-filled day,
Helga

Random Acts of Creativity |
| As I mentioned, my
creative time has been sorely lacking lately (because of dear little
Stella) but here are a few things I’ve been up to along with a couple of
other surprises. |

Quick, Fun Gift
Recently, I had gone for over a month without sitting at my art
desk. So, one morning, I sat down and grabbed a piece of watercolor
paper. I stuck on some of our faux postage, doodled around it and
then scribbled on some watercolor crayons. After I was done, I
realized, hey, what a cool bookmark! I’m thinking these would make
perfect Christmas gifts! I can select fun books and tuck them
inside. One took me about 15 minutes to make so if I make 1 a week,
I’ll be set! |
|
Quick,
Pretty Gift Tag
I made this nifty gift tag by just folding a paint sample and adding
one of our faux postage stickers! |

Playtime in my Art Journal
I love polka dots! Here I’ve been playing with dots in my art
journal. What fun! |
|
Cool
Photo from Mexico
I just had to share this awesome photo with you. My hubbie, James,
took it in Mexico. When looking through the hole in this
crumbling, old wall, you can see a beautiful little flower. |

Great Giftwrap Idea
My dear friend Suz loves to spoil me. She sent me this beautiful
pile of prezzies for my birthday earlier this year. Check it out:
she spelled out my name in big chipboard letters on the gifts. Love
this idea!

My Cute Kitties
Don’t they look so cute in my ARTchix tote bag? Bruno jumped inside
my bag on the left. Meanwhile, Inca, on the right, decided to take a
nap on all of the boxes that were stuffed into the bag. |

Cool
Tunes: The Kooks
I’m totally addicted to this CD! The Kooks are a hip British band
that’s great to listen to while making art. |
|
Whimsical, Beautiful Art
I purchased this wonderful mixed media painting on
eBay.com. Tascha, the
artist and seller, is excellent to deal with. Her name on eBay is:
pretty_nifty. |

Excellent Glue Stick
I’m just loving this new glue stick! It’s made by Adhesive Tech.
It’s great for adhering paper to paper and it holds REALLY well.

Creative Jumpstarts |
| Sometimes
life gets too busy and I’m not able to make art playtime for myself.
Usually, after these dry spells, when I finally sit down at my art
desk, I find myself overwhelmed and not sure where to begin. So, I
started making up some fun exercises for myself so that I would have
some direction and focus. Here’s what I’m working on now. Wanna join
me? Try these fun exercises out and if you can, please
email me with your results. I’d love to see and hear how it goes
for you. I look forward to sharing more with you in the next issue. |

What
to do:
* Make a grid filled with circles and dots. Draw a grid on a piece
of watercolor paper. Experiment with circles and dots by drawing,
painting, cutting or punching circles out of paper bits and images,
stamping, etc. Think about circles as patterns and focal points,
play and have fun. (I’ve done this one already, it’s no stress,
playtime! - see my grid of polka dots on page 3).
* Make a collage with circles/ dots and words. Cut out interesting,
descriptive words and phrases from old books. Close your eyes and
select 3 words or phrases. Pick your favorite 1. Then make a small
collage and incorporate this word or phrase into your collage. To
make it easy, find a card, postcard or tiny canvas that you have
laying around to use as the base of your collage. PLUS, incorporate
a circle or circles/ dots into your
collage (refer to your grid above for inspiration). |
|
* Make a
collage with circles/ dots and color. Pull out a set of Crayola
crayons, watercolor crayons, pencils or a set of paints (your
choice). Close your eyes and select 3 colors. Pick your favorite 1
and make a collage with that color. Make it a monochromatic collage
or add this color's complimentary color (your choice). Same as
above, find anything that you have laying around to use as the base
of your collage. PLUS, include a circle or circles/ dots in your
collage (again refer to your grid above for inspiration).
* Treat yourself! If you do all 3 of these exercises, buy yourself
something round or an item that has circles. Think of a donut,
circular earrings, dotted paper, etc. |

Favorite Products: Halloween |
| Don’t you
just love Halloween? It’s so much fun to dress up and indulge in
lots of yummy candy. |

1)
ATC Creativity Kit:
Halloween
(#K613)
You’ll find lots of Halloween-y
goodness in this new kit. It’s so much fun to play with! You can
make at least 12 little collages with this kit and then place them
around your house as really unique, arty Halloween decorations. Try
tucking them into mirror frames, hang them from door and cabinet
knobs, post on the fridge, etc. Or how about putting a branch in a
decorative container and then hanging all of your ATCs on it? It
would look amazing! |
|
2) Black Swan Wings
(#G888)
Love these awesome black paper wings! See how
Christine used a pair in the gallery below. |

3)
Enchanted
Bones Collage Sheet (#M189)
These cool skeletons are perfect for Halloween ATCs! |
|
4) Luminescent Skull Beads
(#AB996)
I’m thinking these see-through, iridescent charms
would look awesome on a Halloween themed charm bracelet or necklace! |

5)
Black
Paper Mesh
(#G899)
This paper mesh has endless
possibilities: I love adding it to my artwork as a fence or cool
patterned background. It’s also fun to use it as a unique stencil.
